I heard a lyric recently that stirred my heart and caused me to worship. The words are “You delight in showing mercy. And mercy triumphs over judgment.” The thought of the Lord delighting to show me – us – mercy absolutely stunned my frequently defensive and guarded heart. My mind quickly wandered to try and recall a time that I truly delighted in showing mercy to someone. In that moment by God’s grace, my heart turned to praise that He fully and perfectly loves in all the many ways I fail to.
The Lord is so gracious in His constant pursuit of our hearts, changing and softening us by revealing who He is and our great need for Him. He doesn’t do this to cause shame; instead He highlights His wholeness and perfection to stir our hearts to worship Him who, doing all things flawlessly, chooses us in our sin and brokenness. Praise be to God!
